Back pain can be debilitating. Pain in the lower back can come from the muscles that control side to side motion (the quadratus lumborum), muscles that control extension (erectors), and also from the muscles that control the position of the hips, especially the Gluteus medius. Tension in the Gluteus medius can create pain that feels like it is coming directly from the sacrum and Sacro iliac joint. Back pain can limit ones ability to pick up objects from the floor and can diminish quality of life. Most athletes need strong and healthy back muscles to compete successfully.

Assisted stretching for the hips and lower back can relieve pain that feels like it is coming from the sacrum, pain that is in the lower part of the spine, pain during twisting or bending forward, and even sitting. Of course some back pain can come from disks or ligament inflammation, but since the muscles control the position of the bones, creating proper muscle function and also help those conditions.
