Hamstring stretch
Hamstring pain can be a common occurrence in runners, bikers and other athletes who use their lower body. Pain in the hamstrings can come from sprained tendons either at the top of the muscle where it attaches to the hip, or at the bottom where it attaches below the knee on either side. Pain can also come from a strained muscle that will feel hot and painful. Wether the pain comes from the tendons or the muscle, stretching can help to loosen the muscle, taking the pressure of the tendons, and increasing blood flow to the muscle- speeding healing. Other types of hamstring pain can come from the sciatic nerve being pinched when it exits the spine or as it travels through the hip. This type of pain, although felt in the hamstrings, does not originate in the hamstrings. For this type of sciatic pain, a different set of stretches are required.
